As you can imagine I've been extremely busy since purchasing my home. For a foreclosure it was in pretty good shape, but I still have/had some repairs to make and updating to do. It's work but exciting to make it my own. It's been almost 3 months and I've learned plenty of lessons about home ownership so far.
1. Do NOT use glue-on tiles. I went the "cheap" route (it probably wouldn't have been much more for actual tiles and they would look much nicer), but for now it'll do.
2. Do NOT take on too many projects at once! I made that mistake. It was extremely overwhelming and stressful. Take your time and do one project at a time.
3. Always read the description on the weed killer bottle :) Yep, it ended up being weed AND GRASS killer. After I sprayed it all over my backyard I noticed large brown patches of dead grass everywhere! Then my dad showed me what it said on the bottle. Woops.
I've been waiting for the day to decorate my own house for so long. So I've been going a little crazy and ended up with a garage full of furniture :) I can't just go to Target and buy what I need and be happy. I need to make it my own!
My mom has been teaching me a lot about how to paint, stain, and distress furniture. There's soo many different things you can do to a piece of furniture! Our first finished piece for my house is a dresser that I'm using as my living room TV stand. It's great for storing DVD's and such without the clutter!
Gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with her skills. I'm sooo excited to start on the next piece! I think next we'll tackle my two end tables for the living room. It'll be so nice to have a place to put a lamp and not have to put our stuff on the floor! As of right now I'm thinking I'll paint them the same creamy white color as the dresser and then distress them.
Since it's a 3 day weekend, I'm hoping to get a lot done, but nothing ever goes as quickly as you think of course. Hopefully I'll have some new furniture to show you next time!
